Zalak Shah 1st year of Interior Design & Architecture As a part of curriculum students of 1st year Architecture & Interior Design visited Raghuveer Timber Industry at GIDC Vitthal Udyognagar, to learn about the full process of "natural seasoning" of timbers, which involved stacking and drying the wood directly in the air, wind, and sun. Also, they examined the various types of wood that were being used and sawed logs with machines. The owner also went over the cost of the wood and shipping as well as how to store and separate wood according to grade.

VASANTOTSAV 2022 (Transpire Design Thinking) SMAID & Fine Arts College together celebrated VASANTOTSAV 2022 ON ” 14TH February 2022 Monday” through exhibition of student’s work which they did in the campus for 6 days consecutively collaboratively. Exhibition includes 4 different electives - Fundamental Of Designs, Transformation Of Design, Portfolio Making, Bird House Design. Each group has done the work as a journey from beginning to final outcome which represent their creativity, skills & visualization. Student has taken part in elective very enthusiastically. This exhibition was inaugurated by Hon. Jt secretary Shri Mehul Patel, Prof Jyoti Gill, Prof. Kanu Patel and Prof. Ajit Patel Sir. This exhibition witnessed an inflow of college faculties, parents, citizens, university staff etc. SMAID students availed this instance as an opportunity to interact and explain their design intensions to inquisitive visitors, there by gradually raising their confidence level.

Site visit: Bungalow construction near Maa Kali ka Mandir, Gana Road (2nd year & 3rd Year Architecture & ID students) Faculty coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh, Ar. Ravi Patel The objective of the site tour was to have a better understanding of the construction process and stages. For residential buildings, the foundation, plinth, sill, and lintel levels were exploreded. They were well-versed in brick masonry, mortar preparation, and material handling. Various tools and machines were explored on the construction site. They also did sketching and photography on site. It was a great learning opportunity for them, and they liked interacting with the masons and laborers on the site.

He has achieved those pinnacles of glory and honour that an Artist and the nation at large can take a privileged pride of. The sonority of the static moments that he has captured through lens of a camera unveils a visionary, insightful genius work.The students at Faculty of Architecture & Planning, SMAID were enlightened with his various interior and Architectural captures and the techniques used. They learnt camera to Operate Camera and its basic terminology. The light quality and angles for capturing the structure, landscape and intricate details. It was a wonderful session to observe, learnand capture their own ideas with the expert.

This is a private corporate sector, is more focus on pharma plant rather than office space. (Pure focus on plant production) scale of this project is very large and big as compare to Globela Pharma. Because of focus on plant production area, the amount of hygiene, strictness, detailing & punctuality is indeed too high. Site Visit: Real Coating , GIDC, Vithal Udyognagar (Date: 3rd October 2019) 2nd year Architecture Faculty Coordinators: Ar. Ruma Singh As a part of Building Technology & Materials subject student had visited the site. The objective of the Site visit to Real Coating, GIDC area was to understand the anodization & annealing surface treatments of Aluminium Sections, wires and other Aluminium articles. The process that converts the metal surface into a decorative , durable, corrosion resistant, anodic oxide finishes. They also explored the annealing process carried out in furnace. Use of Aluminium metal in building products like door, window frame, grills, hardware, pipes, fasteners & fittings etc. The students also were explained about the finished products costs, sizes, packaging, storage and handling etc. They interacted with the workers who were working at the site. It was a remarkable visit for the students as they were overwhelmed with the owner and workers responses.
Site visit : Sai Tilak Glass Works, GIDC 9th October 2019 (3rd Year, 5th Semester, Interior Design) Faculty Coordinators: Ar. Ruma singh As a part of curriculum having a Glass workshop the students of Interior design learned the various glass treatments used for decorative purposes like sand blasting to make the transparent glass to translucent glass, designed and pattern making on glass plates used for partitions, shelves, door /window glass panels etc. They also explored the safety tools, time required for preparation and the precautions during the treatment process. It was a great experience of learning during making the sample of the same.

Ruma singh As a part of curriculum having a Glass workshop, Market survey on types of glasses like sheet glass, wire embedded glass, float glass, colored glass, opaque/translucent glass, bullet glass, laminate glass, fiber glass etc. was done by the Interior students of 3rd year. They did market survey on the various sizes n thickness available for glass types and their cost. They also explored the various uses of glass in Interiors for decorative purposes, partitions, false ceilings, sculptures, mirrors, door/window panels and skylights.

Ruma singh As a part of curriculum having a glass workshop the students of Interior Design did industrial visit to understand the making and handling of Tempered and Toughen Glasses, the applications and properties were also explained by the factory in charge. They explored the Machines and various tools used in glass cutting like water jet cutting & Laser glass cutting. The sizes available and used for making door and windows were also explained.

Krishna Prakash Student coordinator – Urvish Bodara Site visit to C.L Patel Institute of Studies and Research in Renewable Energy (ISRRE) for demonstration of solar related instruments. The visit aims to make students understand the concept of solar beam radiation and working methodology of pyroheliometer (for direct beam radiation) and pyranometer (direct and diffuse both type of radiation).

On 23rd of July 2019, students of Interior Design 4th year Interior Design students had been guided by the faculty co-ordinator to visit Heritage houses and area of old Pol of Ahmedabad. The objective of this visit was to understand the Adaptive reuse of existing Heritage structure.
Industrial site visit Date: 25th July 2019 Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh and Ar. Abhinav Shrivastava On 25th July 2019, the students of 2nd Year Architecture did industrial site visits for Veneer, Plywood and Flush Door Manufacturing units. The objective of the site visit was to understand and explore the material handling, seasoning of wood, the process of making veneers, Plywood and FlushDoors, to study the precautionary and safety aspects, the tools and machines, Raw & Finished material storage, loading and uploading of finished product etc. they were exposed to the different sizes and grades of plywood & flush doors made. Students were overwhelmed to meet the workers and see them working at the industries.
1st YEAR BID – VADODARA | 18 - 20 DECEMBER 2019 FACULTY CO-ORDINATOR – ID. ZALAK SHAH FOCUSE OF THE DESIGN STUDIO: RESIDENTIAL SPACES As a part of curriculum, students of 1st year I.D was taken to the old city of Baroda to study the “POL Houses” with the intention of understanding the articulation and space planning for Residential spaces. Students explored the old house typology, the transition of old houses to modern houses. Students had observed their daily routine activities, elements of interiors i.e motif, patterns, niches, texture, colour, lightings, scale & proportion. Construction techniques & detailing i.e. types of staircases, ceilings and roof. The overall functionality and setup of residence will be incorporated into their studio project. EMPHASIS: • Articulation and space - planning for Residential spaces. • Understanding basic residential requirements through design of spaces within a given context. • Space making in an existing context allowing some freedom within the given architectural frame to achieve a harmonious whole of various activities. • Basic Awareness of services in a residential space and also structural understanding. • Qualities of interior - texture, colour, light, scale and proportion.

Main focus of the visit was contextual study to help the students in their studio projects. A Specific area of walled town of Vadnagar near Sarmistha Lake was selected for study and analysis of House form and Settlement pattern. The students documented the selected area along with mapping of the dwelling, Street pattern, Culture, Family need, Tangible- intangible aspects of culture and visit Historical Structure of Vadnagar like Kirtitoran, Lateri vav, Nathdharo, Tana- Riri, Janjaniyo Kuvo etc). Documentation was carried out with the help of measure Drawing, Sketches, Diagram and Questionnaires the helped Interaction and Interviewing Dwelling owners.

Kaizen Faculty Development Program Date: 17th January 2020 Kaizen faculty development program organized on 17th January 2020 by Ar. Hitesh Changela, IPSA Rajkot on Earthen Architecture. Graduation in architecture from SCET, South Gujarat University, Surat in 2000. Since then he is into practice & teaching. After 2001 earthquake in Gujarat, he was associated with Hunnarshala and shelter innovation & support centre at Kutch as a consultant Architect. He had actively worked in the team kutch NavNirvan Abhiyan and paraplegic shelter. His major area of research & teaching is in building materials & construction, and structure in architecture. His is having strong knowledge of vernacular practices across the country. Workshop will be in three parts. 1. What is sustainability?? Question & answer session. 2. Introduction to earthen architecture. Traditional and contemporary practice. 3. Pedagogy of sustainable architecture. Simplifying & demystifying concepts.
Virtual reality workshop: 19th July 2019 (co-curricular) Faculty coordinator – Ar. Monika Patel Virtual reality workshop has been conducted at SMAID campus on 15th July 2019 Monday by Mr.Dipak O Shah. Virtual reality design software opens a lot of new doors for Architecture and Interior Design students. Virtual reality is a great hand-holding mechanism where it takes the student through an engaging environment to grasp the feel of the entire project.
Clay/Terracotta workshop by Ashwin Prajapati 22, 30,31 July 2019 Faculty coordinator : Zalak Shah Student coordinator : Kartavya Vaidya (2nd Yr Interior Design) As a part of curriculum 2nd year interior design students are having subject called Terracotta Workshop. In our premises we had invited local skilled person to give hands on experience on clay. Mr. Ashwin Prajapati showed us the entire process of how clay was made for making models/ products, how to give the shapes on potter’s wheel with different tools & techniques. The entire process of drying, baking in manmade kiln & painting was done in sequence. Students participated with great enthusiasm & explore a lot with their hands on experience.
Construction site visit – 18th February 2019 (3rd year B.Arch and 2nd year B.Id) Faculty coordinators : Ar. PurviOza, Ar. Jignesh Oza and Ar. Ravi Patel Site visit to Vadodara; to clinic building for case study of false ceiling and industrial building for case study of construction methods. Total 60 no. of students had visited the place. Visit to clinic building as a part of Building Technology subject mainly focused on the construction techniques of fixing false ceiling. The visit aims to make students understand the construction and the elements of the false ceiling & its materials along with the electrical services. Also the application of material with the finishing was studied. Visit to industrial building focused on the structural details of a frame structure which included the construction methods of column, spacing of column, elements of reinforcement in horizontal and vertical loaded RCC elements such as foundation, ground beam. Plinth beam, steel roof structure, etc. This site visit was for the working drawing semester.
1ST YEAR B. ARCH/ B.ID/ B. PLAN – HASSAN-BELUR, KARNATAKA | 21 -31 DECEMBER 2018 FOCUS: SKETCHING, MEASURED DRAWINGS, PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE HERITAGE BUILDINGS & SOCIO-CULTURAL STUDY. FACULTY COORDINATOR- AR. RUMA SINGH The first year Architecture, Interior Design and planning students explored the Hassan- Belur and nearby places at Karnataka. They also explored the monuments, historic, culture, sculpture, architecture and art belonging to the Hoysala period. Students visited the existing monuments and its surrounding to understand the scale & proportions, various architectural elements of design, construction techniques and materials through observations, photography, sketching, drafting and measured drawing of the structure. Students also identified the regional influences on architecture and the life style of people through socio-economic survey. It was an incredible tour for students to learn and experience the life style of the people and places.
2 ND YEAR B.I.D: BANGALORE (KARNATAKA) 17 TO 25 DECEMBER 2018 FOCUSE OF THE DESIGN STUDIO: CORPORATE SECTOR DESIGN FACULTY COORDINATOR: ID. ZALAK SHAH, AR. HARSHIL AMIN & AR. PURVI OZA As a part of curriculum students of 2nd year I.D visited 3 large offices in Bangalore 1) Commune –co-working, 2) CV & 3) TITAN, with an intention of understanding the working of cooperate setups. Students observed the planning of interiors corporate ideology its concept, the layout of furniture, the modularity of workstation. Various elements finishes for flooring, wall - ceiling & services like HVAC, fire safety & alarm system, plumbing, cctv, electrical etc. The overall functionality and setup of corporate offices will be incorporated into the studio project. Focus: • Understanding the nature of a corporate establishment and administrative • Setups for public as well as private sectors through economic-commercial, social, • Psychological factors, behavior patterns and space utilization. • Understanding of all services provided in space functionally & technically. • Detailing of all types of finishes/ material type on surface & application techniques. • Furniture & Partition design & details.
2ND YEAR B. ARCH– HASSAN-BELUR, KARNATAKA | 21 -31 DECEMBER 2018 FACULTY COORDINATOR - AR. APEXA SAVALIYA, AR, KRISHNA PRAKASH FOCUS: Analysis of context as a determinant of Architectural character. Study of built form with special reference to climate, material, social & cultural context, physical environment. Documentation of an area/locality through measured drawings, reading of history, morphological development, etc. • Students in small groups made an intensive study of a selected street- Gunikeshwara, Belur. They focused on place-making; architectural organization and sequence; building interface and façade articulation; and environmental ideas/response where appropriate. The site study covered at once the larger scale of the town and the more local conditions related to the scale of the site.
3RD YEAR ARCHITECTURE – SIKKIM / 14 – 26 DECEMBER 2018 FOCUS: TRADITIONAL CONSTRUCTION TECHNIQUES OF SIKKIM REGION. FACULTY CO-ORDINATOR – AR. MONIKA PATEL, AR. JEMISH LATHIYA The students were taken for their third year R.S.P as the working documentation, reference studio in further semester. The journey followed conscientious sketching and photography sessions of selected regions, landmarks. Intense discussions with faculty about cultural aspects, construction fields, developing city of Gangtok, visiting old houses, in Rinchenpong, meeting the monks, the local & well-known architects, and getting the glimpse of their works in Sikkim. In the documentation part students documented 3 different projects 1) MLA House 2) Lepcha house 3) Monestry which is third oldest monestry in Sikkim. It was a great opportunities for student to deal with such weather conditions & bringing back new learning to the life journey.
4TH YEAR ARCHITECTURE – MUMBAI / 24-29 DECEMBER 2018 FOCUS: HOUSING DESIGN. FACULTY CO-ORDINATOR – AR. PREETY SHAH, AR. RAVI PATEL, AR. PURVI OZA Visit to Mumbai, as a venue for Related Study Program for the students of Housing Design Studio had been conducted on 24th Dec, 2018. This visit was focused towards an encounter with range of Mass housing variations throughout the city. Students visited the housing projects from Historical Timeline i.e. Khota Chi Wadi to Modern Day high-end housing, from housing growth of organic nature i.e. Dharavi to Planned housing projects i.e. Belapur and CIDCO housing, from housing for economically weaker section to High Income groups. A thorough background study helped the students to analyze the physical structures in well details. Also, the growth and changes occurred with time in pre-designed housing schemes helped them understand the changing needs of the residents. Renowned Architects and Urban Planner Mr. Mukesh Mehta from M.M. Consultants shared his design and experience of Dharavi Re-development Plan while Ar. Amar Tendulkar also guided students through the learning about India’s First Sky Scraper designed and constructed by him. The Objective of exposure through academic and professional learning throughout the mass housing designing has been well attained with enthusiasm of Students.
Expert talk was conducted for 3rd students of Architecture by Pidilite. Which was aim to convey role of water proofing technique in construction. The talk was presented by Mr.Sanjay Bhatt and Mr. Samiya Wardhan Jain and coordinated by Ar. Abhinav Srivastav and Om Dhanani on 25th June, 2018.
Expert talk was conducted for 3rd students of Architecture by Rockwool. Which was aim to convey role of Thermal Insulation in Building. The talk was presented by Mr. Tushar Thakar and Mr.SandeepPatil and coordinated by Ar. Abhinav Srivastav and Om Dhanani on 16th July, 2018.

Windows and doors play an important role in design aesthetics and energy performance of buildings, be it commercial, institutional or residential. Encraft is the World's first UPVC windows and doors solutions provider, specializing in the design, UPVC Windows, UPVC Doors, and UPVC Profiles. We organized an expert lecture on UPVC doors and windows for 2nd year B.Arch students on October 23rd, 2018. The lecture was delivered by Mr. Vishal Agravat, an industry expert from Encraft India Private Ltd. He described market trends and technical advantages of uPVC Windows & Doors. He also quoted instances from his own experiences of working with different companies and clients.
VADODARA SITE VISIT - (2nd & 3rd year B. Arch.) Vadodara Islamic Studies Centre and National Academy of Indian Railways Total 38 students with four faculties visited the place. Shilpi Aggarwal, Monika Patel, Chintan Desai, and Ravi Patel. Focus of the visit is to understand the design aspects of institutional project along with construction techniques I.e. Use of vaults, exposed hollow bricks, light ventilation and connection of various spaces.

1st Year Interior Design - Aluminum window fabricator & Powder Coating Factory - 13th & 27th February 2018 The site visit was conducted for students from 1st year Interior Design to understand the qualities, uses of aluminum. The students were exposed to various profiles, aluminum sections and their joinery details; fixing of glass windows, different type of glass windows & their joinery with aluminum. The second site visit was conducted to study the finishes on aluminum. The students studied the process of powder coating and anodizing on aluminum. The coating is typically applied electro statically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as household appliances, aluminum extrusions, drum, and automobile and bicycle parts. The students also post the visit, made reports and presentations on the visit.
1ST YEAR B.I.D: KUTCH-BHUJ | 14 -19 December2017 Focus of Design Studio: STUDY OF LOCAL ART & CRAFT Faculty COORDINATOR: Ar. SHILPI AGRAWAL 1st year B. I.D was taken to Kutch Bhuj to experience and explore the art, craft and culture of this region. Students got a chance to interact with artisans in different villages and explore the various art forms practiced by various communities. It was enriching experience for young minds.

FACULTY COORDINATOR- AR. JEMISH LATHIYA The1st year architecture students explored the beauty of rich Indian architecture of Rajasthan in jodhpur & jaiselmer.1st year being the foundation of learning, is dedicated to understanding the proportions, scales, volume, and make notes of various elements of design features used in existing built structures on site observation, photography, sketching, drafting, and measured drawing of the buildings. Apart from understanding the architectural style students also identified the regional parameters and life style of people. It was an overwhelming joyous tour for first year to experience a place, together in a group that inculcates sharing, caring, adjustments, and being together leading to developing team spirits.
2ND & 3RD YEAR B.I.D – PUNE & LAVASA, MAHARASHTRA | 12-19 DECEMBER 2017 FACULTY CO-ORDINATOR – AR. BHARAT PANCHAL, AR. RUMA SINGH FOCUS: CORPORATE SECTOR DESIGN To make students understand the interior spaces, its design & details of corporate offices. Students had visited the corporate offices in Pune which is SUZLON the energy limited where they sketched plan, elevations & views of the interior spaces along with documentation of details. The students observed the planning of interiors as per concept, the layout of furniture, the modularity of workstation, different finishes for flooring, wall ceiling & HVAC, MEP needs also, fire safety & alarm system. The overall functionality and setup of corporate offices will be incorporated into the studio project.
RSP 2ND YEAR B.ARCH: JODHPUR & JAISALMER, RAJASTHAN | 09-18 DECEMBER2017 FOCUS: CONTEXTUAL STUDY OF REGIONAL PARAMETERS GUIDING DESIGN AND SETTLEMENT PATTERN. FACULTY COORDINATOR: AR. SEEMANTINI SORAGANVI, AR. RITI NAIK, AR. PRASHANT RAMI The rsp for 2nd year architecture was conducted at Jodhpur. Main focus of the visit was contextual study to help the students in their studio project. a specific area old jodhpur near mehrangarh fort Rajasthan, was selected for study and analysis of the culture, blue! Inside is a tangle of winding, glittering, medieval streets, which never seem to lead where you expect them to, scented by incense, roses and sewers, with shops and bazaars selling everything from trumpets and temple decorations to snuff and saris. The students documented the selected area along with mapping of the residence, street patterns and other structures of the site. Documentation was carried out with the help of measure drawings, sketches, and questionnaires’ that helped interaction and interviewing residents. Tradition, climate, surrounding and architectural features of the buildings. The old city, a jumble of Brahmin-blue cubes, stretches out to the 10km-long, 16th-century city wall.

The co-curricular activities involve site visits, Related Study Programs (RSP), Seminars and workshops apart from theory classes. Site visits are aimed at acquiring knowledge about varying building typology, construction techniques and material used, by visiting heritage premises and ongoing projects. RSPs expose students to the regional variation of geographic parameters, landform, culture and ethics, climatic conditions that drive certain type of architecture, design and life style of the people. The seminars conducted on building materials provide a platform to get acquainted with the current trend of materials available in the market and their application. The workshops engage students in other form of art and design fields. Hands on experience help them explore the other areas of design. Following are the details of all the co-curricular activities arranged for students:
Visit to OCHRE Ceramic Workshop | 14th August 2015 Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh The students of 3rd Semester, Interior Design, visited to the OCHRE Ceramic workshop at Hadgud Village. The main thrust of this visit was to confirm theoretical information into actual experience. The NID trained Ms. Kavita Ganguly explained to the students the process of casting clay/ceramic items from raw to the final products. The students were exposed to various stages including clay preparation ‘Kneading’, Lump throwing process (on potter wheel) and turning, rolling of slab, surface preparation (creating surface, depression, pinching, coiling etc.) along with the biscuit and glazed firing system. The students further were acquainted to commercial aspects of the finished products. The students had an interface with the latest technology used in the process and with the local workers, techniques of other countries like: Japanese, Shibori, Textile Technique, African Harry comb Technique etc.
1st year B. Arch. - Site visit to Vadodara | 13th February 2016 Faculty coordinator- Ar. Shilpi Aggarwal Focus- Construction of Arches & Cavity wallsConstruction in 2nd semester aims at learning brick masonry, types of arches, cavity walls and wooden joinery. Students were taken to BBA institute of Faculty of Commerce, MS University of Baroda designed by renowned Ar. Yashwant Mistry. Visit to an ongoing construction of residential bungalow designed by Ar. Arup Ghoshis an example of sustainable architecture in terms of reuse of approx. 40% demolished material, rain water and grey water harvesting, geo-thermal process for maintaining inside temperature, solar panels etc. The project gave experimental insights of design and construction technology used at various stages of the entire project. Interaction with the consulting Architect and owner of the property, enriched the young minds with the variety of details, site challenges, and experimental approach for optimum utilisations of resources to save energy. Post lunch a visit to heritage buildings of Vadodara like Sayaji Museum, at Sayaji Bagh, Lakshmi Vilas Palace took place. Students observed brick and ashlar masonry construction along with uses of various size and types of arches in the arcades of Heritage structures of Baroda.
Visit to an Exhibition at D.N. High School, Anand | 13th February 2016 Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh, Prof. Ajit PatelOn the occasion of completing 100 years D.N. High School of Anand, managed by Charotar Education Society, had exhibited Madhubani painting. The students of 1st Year ID visited the exhibition and interacted with the Artists as a part of their subject (Humanities- II), to explore the Indian Arts and crafts and its relation to built environment and interior spaces. The students were enlightened with the traditional techniques, tools, colours and story behind the paintings. They also learned to do the painting with brushes and nib- pens using natural dyes and pigments. It was a magnificent and hand on experience on the Indian Madhubani Paintings.
2nd year Interior Design-Types of Partitioning system | 15th February 2016 Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh, Ar. Kaushik JoshiAs a part of syllabus, the students of 4thSemester,Interior Design, were taken to the sites for Partition walls. Students observed, discussed, measured and sketched the various types of partition walls like Glass partition; Glass with wooden partition; Aluminium frame with glass partition; and Metal with Gyprock on actual sites. The visit had a tremendous learning value.

3rd year B. Arch. - Site visit to Vadodara | 20th February 2016 Focus of VI semester Design studio is learning architectural working drawings of a project. Visit to ongoing sites of a residential Bungalow, apartment and other commercial projectsexposed them to construction details at various level in relation to structure, heights, openings, treatment, material application etc. that are executed as per details given in architectural working drawings. Students of VI Sem B. Arch. explored an ongoing residential bungalow, two apartments at various stages of construction to comprehend the variation in construction details, and ongoing construction of International airport Vadodara. This visit helped students to correlate the working drawing with practical aspects of ongoing site. Students also observed the onsite challenges during execution of project and arising need of changes to be made in the drawings.

RSP 2nd year B.Arch. :Udaipur, Rajasthan | 10TH - 17TH December 2015 Focus of Design Studio : Contextual study of regional parameters guiding design and settlement pattern Faculty Coordinator : Ar. Seemantini Soraganvi The RSP for 2nd year architecture was conducted at Udaipur. Main focus of the visit was contextual study to help the students in their studio project. Aspecific area Chandpol, was selected for study and analysis of the culture, tradition, climate, surrounding and architectural features of the buildings. Chandpol, is a pre-dominantly a vernacular settlement of Rajputana Dynasty of Udaipur city. The students documented the selected area along with mapping of the residence, street patterns and other structures of the site. Documentation was carried out with the help of measure drawings, sketches, and questionaries’ that helped interaction and interviewing residents.
RSP 2nd year B.ID. | 09TH-16TH December 2015 Focus of Design Studio : Interior design of Corporate Offices Faculty Coordinator : Ar. Devyani Deshpande The focus of the RSP was to make students understand the interior space design and details of Corporate Offices. At Pune, the students visited different Corporate Offices in groups, where they sketched theplans, sections of the interior spaces along with documentation of minute details. The students observed and documented the planning of interiors as per theme/concept, the layout of furniture, the modularity of workstations; different finishes for floorings and ceilings, HVAC and MEP needs, and very importantly the services of fire safety and regulations.Site documentation, different cases were justified through panel discussions with the faculties.The overall functionality and setup of corporate office will be incorporated into the studio project.
RSP 3rd year B.Arch. :Dharamsala, Hamirpur, Amritsar, Kapurthala (North Region) | 09TH-16TH December 2015 Focus of Design Studio : Development of Architectural Working Drawings Faculty Coordinator- :Ar. Shilpi Aggarwal Students of 3rd Year B.Arch. visited Northern Region of the country with a focus to experience varying landform of hills, Sikh Architecture and settlement pattern. It was locally coordinated with National Institute of Technology, Hamirpur, where their faculties explained the constraints and potentials of construction in hilly region. The students studied and observed ongoing construction work and they learned the site context and other vital aspect of construction that are region specific. Later a visit was paid to the Buddhist Monastery,cricket ground and experienced the typical local features of settlement in Dharamsala. Students attended the beating retreat ceremony performed every evening at Wagah Borderof India and Pakistan and visited Atari, the last Railway Stationon Border. Following days were dedicated to explore Sikh Architecture in Amritsar, Morish Mosque in Kapurthala featuring Morish Architecture.
RSP 4th year B.Arch. –: Case Study of Housing Schemes in Delhi, Mumbai, Belapur CBD, and Auroville | 25TH- 29TH January 2016 Focus of Design Studio : Design of Mass Housing Faculty Coordinator : Ar. Jemish Lathiya 4th year being a matured level of learning are engaged in development of large scale design project of a mass housing design. The parameters to be understood are the density of units in relation with income group, their varying standards of living and requirements of size of dwelling unit, facilities and amenities along withbasic infrastructure. Students undertook these studies in the groups of 6-8 student per group. Students explored housing for Economically Weaker Section, GSFC-Industrial Township, High rise like Kanchenjunga in Mumbai, Asian Games Village, Sustainable design concepts used in the development of experimental township, Auroville, Pondicherry.
Seminars conducted by manufacturing companies offer comprehensive exposureabout the available products in the market. Students get to know the entire process of manufacturing, design, detailing dealt during making of the products, success and failure story of the products along with fitting and application. Seminar By CERA bath fittings | 15th July 2015 Seminar has been conducted by CERA Bath Fittings for students in the month of July. Audio Visual Presentation explained range of fittings and fixtures available in the market and the new innovation that the company keeps on exploring to improve the accessories. The students were also explained the plumbing details of the fittings.
Seminar By NIPPON Veneers | 27th July 2015 Nippon veneer manufacturer has brought new range of veneers which does not require application of laminates on top of it and can be used directly for wood work in interiors. The presentation explained the manufacturing process of the new veneer range along with benefits and application. They also displayed more than 50 types of veneers available in the market.
Terracotta workshop | 29th & 30th December 2015 Workshop Expert: Ms. Vaishali Prajapati Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Ruma Singh Student Coordinator: Udit Sharma & Akash M. Patel Terracotta Workshop was a hands on experience for the students of 1st Year Architecture. They learned the process and techniques of clay preparation and carving that includes: 1) Kneading, 2) Rolling of slab, 3) Drying, 4) Biscuit firing5) Finishes. The workshopsaw active participation of students with creation of products like Frames, masks, jewellery pieces, table accessories and artefacts from clay.
Bamboo workshop | 29th & 30th December 2015 Workshop Expert: Rajiv Jassal Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Jemish Lathiya Student Coordinator: Ayush Sharma & Shreyas About 40 Students from various classes attended workshopunder the guidance of Expert Rajiv Jassal. The 2 days’ workshop helped students understand the basic properties of bamboo for product design and joinerydetails of bamboo.Efforts put in by students under the guidance of expert createdfurniture peices like book stand, chair, lampshade, etc.
Madhubani Painting | 4th and 5th January 2016 Workshop Expert: Artist AropBhoi Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Shilpi AggarwalStudent Coordinator: Ruchi K. & Muskan K. A mix of student’sfrom Architecture andInterior design were enrolled for Madhubani painting under the expertise of a well-known local artist ArupBhoi. Students painted wall, staircase profile, tiles which can be used as coasters, and created bookmarks. Two day workshop developed skills of a folk art practiced in Mithila in Bihar.
Miniature Painting | 4th and 5th January 2016 Workshop Expert: Artist KishoreNarkhadiwala Faculty Coordinator: ID. Urvi Solanki Student Coordinator:Hinal,Maitri Miniature painting exposed the creation of intricate pattern in the form of painting. Students created the patterns of borders, motifs, jewellery, ornamenting of the king and queen, elephants & camelswith minute detailing. It turned out an extra ordinary experience for students.
Textile workshop- Tie and Dye | 4th and 5th January 2016 Workshop Expert: Prof. Preety Shah Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Devyani Deshpande Student Coordinator: Chandani,Roshni The workshop was arranged to enable architecture as well as interior design students to take part. The focus of the workshop was to let students experience the techniques of Tie and Dye focusing Bandhani print strategies. A mixed group of students from various classes enabled student’s interaction. The students were guided to produce these technique samples on tee shirts and scarves. A wide variety in terms of colour and style thus evolved and ended in a productive experience.
Model Making | 14th and 5th January 2016 Workshop Expert: Shailesh Sonar Faculty Coordinator: Ar. Seemantini Soraganvi Student Coordinator: Varish P. & Preet S. Shri. Sonar, a model making expert was invited to enhance the skills and equip students with techniques of model making. Students were divided into the groups of fourto make models of famous buildings of Kanchenjunga Apartments, Lotus Temple, Barcelona Pavilion, Sanchi Stupa, Matri Mandir, Burj Khalifa,and Sodhan Villa.Students of interior design mademodels of the interiors spaces with detailing of furniture.
Construction Yard | 4th and 5th January 2016 Workshop Expert: Er.Jayesh Pitroda Faculty Coordinator: ID. Namrata Shah Student Coordinator: Parth Senghani Students from Interior Design& Architecture participated in this workshop with enthusiasm. The objective for this workshop was to give an exposure of construction techniques used in brick masonry. The workshop was conducted in the outdoors of SMAID premises, where they executed partition walls with seating’s in brick masonry.

The Site visit for Third Year Interior Design students in the course Construction – V. This was conducted on 12th July 2014, Saturday. The site visit was conducted for students to understand the Kitchen cabinet details, materials and fixtures used for cabinet construction. The Students were exposed to different types of cabinet’s design, material used for cabinet and also learned technique of details of drawers, doors and trolleys.
GOA RSP (2nd & 3rd year) | Date: 9th to 18th December 2014 RSPs termed as Related Study Program is a part of curriculum for students. The RSPs consist of visits to different places for architectural study. The RSP for Second Year Architecture students was conducted to GOA, Fontainhas Area. The focus of the study tour was a contextual study, which then relates to the studio exercises. The students have to study and analyze the particular area based on its climate, surroundings, culture, tradition and architectural features. The students documented the complete area along with residences, street patterns and other structures on the site. This documentation was done with the help of measured drawings, sketches, interaction with residents, interviews and questionnaires. Post the documentation, the students then produced analysis sheets and drawings which are then a part of the design studio, enabling them to understand the importance of context study. The Fontainhas Area is a predominant PORTUGESE settlement the students had a lot of exposure in heritage study as well. RSPs expose students in learning how the architectural language responds to the context. GOA (11 – 18 DECMBER, 2014- 15) A Related Study Programmed (RSP) for 3 Year Sixth Sem. Student was organized to South Goa as a part of their Academic Curriculum. The aim of this study Programmed was to to Study the existing scenario and suggest corrective schemes to enhance the physical form of the area. Student spent full working days on the chooser area, observing recently the activities on the 18th June Street. They documented thoroughly the land use, activities on the street, social interactions, working of local authorities, the mindset of people inhibitory these areas, local traditions, their culture, before the students came up with possible solutions for the problems documented, Students had rigorous interaction with people and it’s in depth analysis. Visiting a various Institution Building Like Immaculate Conception Church, Church of St Francis of Assisi, kala Academy (Design by Ar. Charles Correa) and Miramar Beach. All Students participated with full enthusiasm.
HAMPI- BADAMI (1st year Arch. & 1sy year ID.) | Date: 15th to 25th December 2014 As a part of Related Study Programme in Interior Design, a study tour was organized along with the faculties to HOSPET- HAMPI- BADAMI- PATTADAKAL-AIHOLE BIJAPUR during 15th December 2014 to 25th December 2014. The focus of the RSP was to make students understand various types of motifs, scuptures and patterns used during ancient time and to get acquainted with the art and culture of a region. At Hampi, students visited Virupaskha Temple, Hazare Rama Temple; here they sketched the elaborate frescoes depicting the story of Ramayana made on the wall, column and frieze of the temples. In ARCHEOLOGICAL MUSEUM, students observed and documented the lifestyle and culture of people during Vijaynagara dynasty. Students were exposed to the multiplicity of clothes, traditional work of art, utensils, life-styles, ornaments, and stone carved statue of deities through Museum displays. At Hampi, students walk around the Temple complexes to see the intricate stone work and handcrafted copper jewellery and other artefacts of the shilpies of the Hampi Region. In the local market area, Students learnt about a form of Embroidery ‘Kasoothi’, which is carried down from generation to generation by the native Lambani/ Banjara Community of Hampi. At Badami caves, students come across columns which were beautifully sculpted with excellently carved images of God and Goddess in different dancing positions and different incarnations. All the carved sculptures have beautiful ornamentation on them, including the animals and birds. The ornaments have designs with lotus carved on them. Thus visiting Badami Caves, students got idea about the culture and clothing of people during sixth century. Students did photography of the ornamented pillars with intricate carvings of Siva and Vishnu in Durga Temple at Aihole and the beautiful figural and decorative carvings at Pattadakal, Sangamesvara Temple and Virupaksha Temple. At Bijapur, a visit to world famous Gol Gumbaz left students amazed on seeing the Islamic intrinsic floral and geometrical patterns which were beautifully carved all over the ceilings and walls.
BANGLORE RSP (2nd year) | Date: 7th to 19th December 2014 Related Study program for IInd year IVth Semester was organized during 7th to 19th December 2014. Students along with Faculties visited Bangalore and Mysore. The primary Objective of the RSP is to Study Corporate Office Environment aspects which contribute in making an ambience of corporate office particularly the services and Modular Furniture. Bangalore and Mysore were considered most appropriate destination as, one of the fastest growing cities now a days and IT hub, enrich with many Corporate offices. Industries like modular Furniture, Ply wood & MDF, Johnson Tiles Manufacturing companies are located in around Bangalore & Mysore City and also famous for many Innovative interior Design products. The first day was a day of general observation and getting acquainted with the region. Visited Mysore Palace to see splendid Interior of the palace. On the Second day Students visited Peacock the Decorative Laminates (India) Pvt. Ltd. Manufacturing the wooden RTA (Ready to Assemble) chair and a broad range of specialized wooden component parts for the furniture industry. After interaction with Authority and visiting to various departments Students learned manufacturing and assembling process of Modular Furniture and also took photographs whole process. On the same day visited Mas Furniture Industry & Corporate Office. MAS Furniture Pvt. Ltd. is a leading manufacturer of high Quality Moulded Steel Furniture, RTA Wooden chairs and wooden furniture components. Students interacted various Authorities and did study of corporate office environment and learned overall working system of Corporate Environment. On the Third day All visited Channapatna and Janapada Lok to Study Local Art of the Region. Channapatna toys are a particular form of wooden toys (and dolls) that are manufactured in the town of Channapatna in the Bangalore Rural district of Karnataka state. the work involved lacquering the wood of the Wrightia tinctoria tree, colloquially called Aale mara(ivory-wood).Students took photographs and understood overall process of wood carving ,polishing, printing process and also making of natural colours. During subsequent days all visited Johnson Tiles Manufacturing Company, Johnson & Johnson Tiles manufacturing company manufacture varied range of tiles Students were exposed to various manufacturing process involved production of different types of Tiles. Visited Art of Living Ashram and interacted with Ravishankaraji Guruji, took photographs and also studied Architecture of the premises. Last day of the trip visited Biesse CNC Machine Manufacturing Company and Corporate Office and also IIID Office presentation and Interaction with students by Architects. Students were explored to manufacturing company as well as corporate office. The Study was conducted on Group basis.5 to 6 Groups were made, each Group were assigned different tasks. At the end of every day discussion with students regarding learning from the visit. The outcome of this visit is Students learned Local Art of the region, various manufacturing process of Interior Products and also leaned ambience of corporate office in terms of working, Designing and space Articulation.
NASA - 2015 | 26-29 January 2015 NASA (National Association of student of Architecture) is an all India Association of Architecture students lead by SPA DELHI. It consists of various trophies prizes on the spot competition cultural events workshops and various competitions which includes works of students from all the colleges. Each college show the work of students of their college and each college is represented by a UNIT SECRETARY (Yash shah) and UNIT DESIGNEE (Saumya Shah). As this the third year of our college and was our first participation we were allowed to participate only in 2 trophies and were allowed to take only 17 students out which 2 were the UNIT SEC AND UNIT DESIGNEE 5 delegates and 10 visitors who were only allowed to observe the festival. SMAID participated in LANDSCAPE and REUBEN’s trophy, SMAID was and awarded second special mention in landscape trophy amongst the 180 Entries amongst India. We did not win an award for REUBENS but we were highly appreciated by various students and faculties of various colleges of India.
AR. SHAILESH GAJJAR | Date: 5 July 2014 A presentation cum interactive session on Professional Projects, making of presentation and execution drawings and thesis methodology was conducted by Ar. Shailesh Gajjar, an eminent Architect from Anand, for Third Year, 5th Semester students of Architecture and Interior Design on 5th July 2014. The focus of this Expert Talk was to educate the students on the professional techniques and methodology to develop a Project, making of Professional Drawings, coordination with the client and other stakeholders. It was also an interactive session where queries/questions related to office training, about theoretical as well as actual office drawings practices were addressed. BENZ FURNITURE | Date: 11, July 2014 Benz Furniture Presentation by Benz Furniture was organized on 11th July 2014, student from Third year and Second Year Interior Design was present for this presentation. The presentation was all about various Design styles, dealing with clients and importing of various Interior Design related products from China. Students learned Designing of various Innovative products according to requirement of clients.
GYPROC | Date: 18 July, 2013 An Expert Lecture was held for the students of 2nd year Interior Dedign by Gyproc industries. Students were guided thoroughly in the innovative techniques employed by Gyproc in erection and construction of drywall partitions and false ceiling. The presentation talk/lecture culminated/ended with expert guidance on benefits of using this material.
SOUND SENSE | Date: 31 July, 2013 An Expert Lecture was held for the students of 3rd year Interior Design. A lucid presentation was given by Mr. Ankur Bhatt and Mr. Gaurav Bhatt. The presentation was about Home Automation, which simplifies the household activities. It included centralized control of lighting, HVAC, appliances, security locks of gates and doors to provide improved convenience, comfort, energy efficiency and security. The popularity of home automation has been increasing greatly in recent years due to much higher affordability and simple operation through Smartphone and tablet connectivity. It ended by satisfactory answers to the student’s queries on using automation in interiors.
PYRA VASTU | Date: 9 July, 2014 A lecture arranged on date 09-07-14 saw participation of Dr. Jiten Bhatt, a well-known identity in the practice of Vastu science. Pyravastu a powerful science of creating balance and harmony by core level corrections through a preprogrammed pyramid yantra, was the focus of the talk. The system designed by Dr. Jiten Bhatt has created a revolution and is result oriented system. The talk given by Dr. Jiten Bhatt was very insightful and helped the students open up, to think in a new direction.
LAMPSHADE WOKSHOP | Date: 27th - 28th January, 2015 The workshop conducted during the college Annual Festival AAROHAN 2015. Referring to the theme of sustainability, the students designed three different varieties of lamp shades. Two were PENDANT lights while one was WALL light. The students used bamboo sticks/ ice-cream sticks and paper to make these lampshades. All these raw materials were very creatively used to achieve lampshades, which have been installed and used in the college campus. The workshop was conducted by our in-house faculty member Ar. Devyani Deshpande.
WARLI WORKSHOP | Date: 27th - 28th January, 2015 Warli Painting workshop was conducted on 27th and 28th January 2015. Warli painting is a tribal art mostly done by Adivasi, living in mountainous as well as coastal areas of Maharashtra-Gujarat border and surrounding areas. In Warli Painting Workshop, 20 students of Architecture and Interior Design (1st Year and 2nd Year) participated. Paintings were done on handmade paper using white acrylic colour by participants. Mr. Arupnanda Bhoi, an eminent artist of Anand demonstrated the Warli Painting. Students had an opportunity to witness and learn the various activities used in Warli Painting. Bamboo Workshop | Date: 27th & 29th January, 2015 As our Bamboo workshop was held on 27th and 29th of January, 2015 as a part of festival.many of the students from first, second and Third year of Architect had took part in that workshop with Enthusiasm. About 25 students had work for five days in our college working hours and they are cooperative to the faculty coordinator Workshop Coordinator Ar. Jemish Lathiya and Student Coordinator Ayush Sharma and Snehal From 3 year Architecture. The objective for this workshop was to make them understand about the basic properties of bamboo used for design and to introduce them with details of joinery of bamboo .as a final product we have made Landscape furniture. Glass Etching Workshop | Date: 27th & 28th January, 2015 Glass being an important material in design, we wanted students to explore its material quality hence, the Glass workshop was conducted. An introductory presentation was given by coordinating faculty member to students, where they learned about glass manufacturing, types of glass, its process & treatments. Further, students proceeded with ‘sandblasting’ on the glass plates. Students were given plain glass plates to design, where they designed the patterns they wanted to etch on glass plates. Then after a vinyl adhesive masking was applied to the glass plates and masking was peeled off as per design. Post this, the plates were sandblasted to attain proper finishing. Wall Painting Workshop | Date: 27th & 28th January, 2015 This workshop was conducted as a part of our annual function “Aarohan” held on 30th Jan 2015.Workshop is about beautifying internal wall in our college . The objective of this workshop was to identify certain wall for mural and paintings based on the theme of “sustainability”. participation is this workshop prepared students for group work ,being tolerant to ideas of others besides getting expose to the technical aspects of designing small wall surface to meet the overall ambiance of the theme ,scraping ,applying primer, selecting drawing on the wall surface , applying the chosen colors and finally cleaning the nearby painted surface and its surrounding places .The students were divided into mixed groups of a combination of 1nd and 2rd year Architecture & Interior Design. This gave them the exposure to new innovative ideas, exploring skills and their creativity .Workshop was conducted by Ar.Riti Naik .
PHOTOGRAPHY | Date: 21 December, 2013 Photography Workshop was conducted by eminent Artist & Photographer and Prof. Ajit Patel. The theme of the workshop was ‘Light and Shadow’. He showed and explained the students how the effect of light and shadow in any photography makes a drastic and charismatic change. He also did his own Photography Exhibition having Building with Nature theme. Prof. Ajit Patel shared his experience and exhibits his Photograph collections having ‘Building with Nature’ theme which was very inspiring for students. He guided students on the basic technical aspects of using a camera and tips to improve skills of photography. The workshop was well appreciated and full of fun and frolic.

Aluminum window fabricator & powder coating factory | Date: 22 january 2014 The site visit for 2nd year Interior Design students was conducted on date: 22/01/2014. The site visit was conducted for students to understand the qualities, uses of aluminum. The students were exposed to various profiles, aluminum sections and their joinery details; fixing of glass windows, different type of glass windows & their joinery with aluminum. The second site visit was conducted to study the finishes on aluminum. The students studied the process of powder coating and anodizing on aluminum. The coating is typically applied electro statically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow. Powder coating is mainly used for coating of metals, such as household appliances, aluminum extrusions, drum, and automobile and bicycle parts. The students also post the visit, made reports and presentations on the visit.
TRIVENI LANDMARK | Date: 8 February 2014 As a part of co-curricular activity, a technical site visit was at Triveni Landmark on 8th February 2014 from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m for all students of SMAID Architecture & Interior Design. The program started with video presentation on Triveni Landmark its concept, site planning, unit design, zoning ,layout etc. Shri Jayesh Shah well-known plumbing consultant brought forth basics of plumbing & drainage system through a.v presentation in lucid manner. The main objective of this site visit is: • To know and understand the scope of work of all person involved in Building Construction from labour to an Architect. • To understand various construction materials • To understand construction processes which go on a site. • To understand services plumbing & drainage system. • To understand layout, functions & interior layout of each unit. All the students participated enthusiastically and were actively involved in making of drawings, sketches & taking photographs. The program ended with vote of thanks to all persons involved, acknowledging their efforts.
BRICK KILN VISIT | Date: 22 February 2014 A site visit to Brick Kiln was organized for students of 1st year Architecture & Interior Design on Saturday 22nd February 2014. The main thrust of this site visit was to confirm the theoretical information to an actual experience. This visit helped students to understand the actual process of manufacturing, the Brick from clay. The students had direct exposure of various sources of brick, transportation of brick, its loading-unloading, its preservation, processing, burning, storage and the human resources involved in this entire process. The students also gained the knowledge of all tools necessary for this processing. They observed & experienced the operations with all these tools.
Modhera- Patan- Siddhpur (GUJARAT) | Date: 26th to 29th December 2013-14 As a part of curriculum in Architecture, a Related Study Programme of 2013-14 for First Year Architecture was organized during 26th- 29th December 2013. The students along with Faculties visited MODHERA- SIDDHPUR-PATAN, which are known for extraordinary architecture. FOCUS OF R.S.P - 1 To enhance observation and visual perception; to develop free hand drawing skills using different techniques, tools and media. OBJECTIVES OF R.S.P - 1 • To understand the scale and form of a monuments. • To learn sketching of various natural and manmade objects using various techniques and tools (pencils, chalk, charcoal, ink, water colours etc.). • To explore various construction details and materials used in making of the monuments. • To explore the culture and historical monuments of a region. The aim of RSP was exposure to give to students an of the rich Indian architecture which blends perfectly with the religion and society; to learn sketching and photography, which were attained well. Students visited the famous SUN TEMPLE. They individually sketched and measured the architectural elements like coloumn, beam, balcony, doors windows etc. and discovered the cultural importance of the heritage and its speciality in illumination. At Siddhpur, they visited the VORWAD, spacious and royal homes of localities, 365 glass building, unique wedding hall and RUDRA MAHALAYA temple. In Patan, the highlight of the tour RANI-KI-VAV and TRIKAM BAROT NI VAV were visited to sketch the details, plan, section, elevation at each floor and to measure details of typical column structure with its base, bracket, capital, motifs & patterns etc. SAHASTRALING TALAV, pond of a 1000 shivlings was also visited which had a secret route to the Sun Temple. Students also visited PATOLA HOUSE to familiariz was the art of weaving & making of the famous patolas and Mashru handloom works. The famous Jain temple, Mahavir Swami Derasar in Dhandherwad with exquisitely carved wooden dome was also visited.
MANDAVI - KUTCH (GUJARAT) | Date: 12th to 18th December 2013 A related study program (RSP) for IInd year fourth sem Architecture Students was organized as part of their academic curriculum, between 12th December 2013 to 18th December 2013. OBJECTIVE OF RSP • To understand “Context” as an important determinant of Architectural character. • To decipher built form with special reference to climate, material , social & cultural context, physical environment. • To comprehend & undertake the process of documentation & its graphical representation. ISSUES • Cluster & community - street pattern • Traditional design and construction principles • Issues of modernity and tradition SITE SELECTION CRITERIA In order that the climate, material, social & cultural context, physical environment become evident, the studio proposes to include a region which still has traditional values, along with undergoing transformation due to urbanization and corresponding social change. A site in Katchh (Mandvi) was selected for study as a part of the studio project. Mandvi is a port city. It is a unique town of merchants and seamen, both mutually benefitting from each other. This town is involved in Bentonite mining, edible oil production, fishing, traditional shipbuilding, cotton products and making of Bandhani, and food-products like, sweets & farsan. Also many different communities are staying in Mandvi so as to study different social values. METHODOLOGY There was an intense search to locate suitable pockets for study & to document clusters in depth for Architectural studies. Students started documenting selected sites from early morning to late evening; Visiting government offices to collect data; taking measurements, interacting with people, mapping communities in terms of their economics structure, understanding behavioral and social values to comprehend the influence of culture on built environment. Following this methodology for four days students documented different clusters which are varied in social values, occupations & economic structure. This R.S.P. ended with visit to Mandvi Palace, White Rann & Rann Utsav in Kutch.
Kutch-Bhuj (Gujarat) | Date: 13th to 18th December FOCUS: To make students understand various methods of making artistic & traditional products. To create awareness and comprehend methods & processes involved in making artifacts. OBJECTIVES OF TOUR: • To make students aware of local arts & crafts of a region. • To explore the life style & culture of people of a region. • To understand the reflection of life style, culture and crafts of in built environment of the region. • With above objectives in mind, Kutch-Bhuj was a selected place for study. As a part of Related Study Programme in Interior Design, a study tour was organized to Kutch-Bhuj (Hodka, Banni, Bhujodi, Khamir, Kalaraksha kendra, Mandvi) from 13th to 18th December 2013 to provide a glimpse of local arts & crafts. Their arts are metal crafts, metal ornaments, painting, printing, cloth weaving, embroidery work, leather work, mud with mirror work, pottery work etc. SELECTION CRITERIA Kutch is one of the most prolific regions in India in the area of textile art. Kutch embroidery is dense with motifs and is one of the most beautiful forms of textile art. A variation with mirrors sewn into the embroidery is one of the signature arts of this region. Within the category of Kutch embroidery there are several sub-categories as each tribe and sub-tribe produces a unique signature form of art. Bhuj is a famous destination for shopping of handicraft work. Artists of nearby villages bring their art work for sale in Bhuj. • At BHUJODI students were exposed to all the local arts & crafts, and the relevant methods of making these artifacts. • At HODKA & BANNI important villages in Kutch, students had an opportunity to study the house form & settlements of local people. They visited different communities of local people who lived in Bhungas; their style & techniques to adorn their houses with different materials. Students had first hand exposure of mud being used as a building material. Students had an interaction with these people & tried to know more about their culture. Women of these communities make the artifacts, handicrafts themselves at home & sell it. • At KALA RAKSHA KENDRA students saw a centre created for conservation and preservation of arts & crafts and how the handicrafts & artifacts are created. • KHAMIR also is a place of preserved local art included making of cloths, weaving, typical Kutchhi embroidery etc. Instituted after the earthquake of 2001, it is a place development of Kutch's rich creative industries. • At KHAMIR students visited various workshops like metal craft, pottery making, leather work bead work, embroidery work, block printing etc and they learnt all processes of making these artifacts. They were also saw a documentary film on how Bhuj art was demolished in earth quake in 2001 and was revived after the devastations • In MANDVI they visited ship making units to learn how ships are made. The R.S.P ended with also the WHITE RANN and firsthand experience of the famous Rann Utsav.
UDAIPUR - RAJASTHAN | DATE: 22nd to 26th December 2013-14 FOCUS: Creating awareness and knowledge of rural life and local handicrafts. OBJECTIVES OF TOUR: • To make students aware of local arts and crafts of a region. • To explore the culture of a region. • To explore the historical monuments of a region. • To understand the lifestyle and traditions of the region. R.S.P for 2nd year 4th semester interior design students was arranged from 22nd December to 26th December. The study tour was organized to UDAIPUR, RAJASTHAN. SELECTION CRITERIA Udaipur is well-known for its culture as well as handicrafts such as painting, marble articles, silver arts, inlay works, terracotta, leather products etc. The marble palaces and the beautiful gardens enhance the beauty of the city. The places visited in Udaipur were - • Saheliyon-ki-badi: The garden is famous for its lush green lawns, marble arts and fountains. The fountains had different kind of elements which were sculpted and ornamented. • Bagore-ki-haveli: The haveli stages Rajasthani traditional dance and music. There is an evening cultural program organized by the local people of Udaipur. They showcase the old dance forms and music traditions in the program. • Saas-Bahu temple: The two temples that are situated side by side with each other are dedicated to the Hindu religion. The temple is sculpted with intricate designs and beautiful figures are depicted on them. The interiors of the temples can be seen with decorated walls and carved pillars. The inlaid works in the temple are elaborately designed. • Sajjangarh palace: Also known as the monsoon palace. It is a hilltop palatial residence in the city of Udaipur. It offers a panoramic view of the city's lakes, palaces and surrounding countryside. The palace has been built on marble pillars, which have been carved with exquisite motifs of leaves and flower. • Kumbhalgarh fort: It is the second-largest continuous wall after the Great Wall of China. It is majorly a fort used by Rajasthan Kings. It has 7 fortified gateways. There is an evening show the light and sound show, it enlights the whole story of the Kumbhalgarh fort. The continuous wall is lit up at night, the view is amazing. • City palace: A fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles and was built on a hill top. The interiors of the palace complex with its balconies, tower and it exhibits delicate mirror-work, marble-work, and murals. There is a vast range of coloured-glass used. • Shilpgram fair: The rural arts and crafts complex. It depicts the lifestyles of the folk and tribal people. • Handmade paper factory visit: There was a factory visit and a workshop organized for the students to see the process of the making of hand-made paper. The process was completely explained in the factory. Then they were taken to the workshop to see the various products of handmade paper and leather goods. CONCLUSION The students throughout the tour were involved in understanding the rural contextual architecture and interior styles with the help of sketching and documentation. The sketching was focused on motifs, frescoes, views and details of various other elements. The tour also covered exploration of different arts forms and crafts with local available material and areas. The students focused on subjects like handicrafts, pottery, leather goods, handmade paper, understanding their production, properties and its usage. The tour conducted will help the students in understanding of context and arts and crafts as an important element and enhance their skills of designing spaces.
Photography | Date: 6 September 2012 Photography workshop was conducted in the college campus by the eminent Mechanical Engineer cum Photographer Sunil Adesara. He shared his experience through a very powerful presentation of his own collection of work which was very inspiring to students. He guided students on the basic technical aspects of using a camera and tips to improve skills of photography. The workshop was well appreciated and full of fun and frolic.
Clay workshop | Date: 24 September, 2012 The clay workshop was conducted by Ms. Niharika Dave a faculty of Fine Arts from MSU Baroda, to booster the creative mind of the students. She demonstrated clay moulding techniques by using different instruments. Students have enjoyed and participated with enthusiasm.

We took our students to visit a Brick kiln at Agas.We had organized one day trip on 17/09/2012. While we took our students to visit Triveni Landmark (Residential Project) and Charusat Campus, Changa to show them Educational Institution and a Health care complex followed by an expert presentation. An Industrial Site visit was organized for Student of IInd Yr. I.D to Morbi-Ceramic Industrial Hub on 8,9&10 September 2013 Supported by CVM,IID CRC and VARMORA VITRIFIED TILES. An opportunity the main thrust of this visit was to confirm the theoretical information in to an actual experience. Help student gain trust information objective of site visit is to understand the ethics process used in manufacture of ceramic saintly ware and ceramic crokery. The students had direct exposure of various stages involved in mixing of its raw material, Moulding, burning in kiln, printing , polishing full packing of finished goods. The students had an interface with the latest technology used in these processes, as also with the local labour employed in this unit. The students gained immensely from this industrial visit. Further the students visited the much awaited TARNETAR FAIR 2013 at Tarnetar on 10th September, 2013 which is landmark event in the tribal history of Gujarat. On way back from Tarnetar a visit to paid to THANGADH which is also centre of domestic ceramic products. Specific object of this Industrial visit was - To understand the complete process of ceramic manufacture. - To understand the type of task force needed for a manufacture process. - To became aware of career opportunities as designers. - To help force students on specific aspects of their studies particularly those which will help them in their final year thesis project One of the most rewarding experiences in design education and training is to these places where actual making of materials and manufacture happen. Site visit have a tremendous learning value that cannot be substituted by class room lectures and reading books.

The main thrust of this site visit was to confirm the theoretical information in to an actual experience. This visit helped students to understand the actual process of manufacturing the timber from raw wood. The students had direct exposure of various sources of wood, transportation of raw wood, its loading-unloading, its preservation, processing, cutting, storage & finally selling. The students also gained the knowledge of all machinery necessary for this processing & they observed the operations with all these machines. Specific Object of This Saw Mill Visit Was • To understand the complete wood processing. • To understand the types of task force needed for processing. • To understand the team work & human resources necessary in a saw mill. • To study different types of machines use full on a saw mill. • To understand the operations of machines present on saw mill. • This site visit had a tremendous learning value that cannot substituted by class room lectures & reading books.
MANDAVGARH (Mandu), M.P. | Date: 7th to 12th January 2013 As a part of curriculum in Architecture, a study tour was organized to Mandu from 7th to 12th January 2013 to provide glimpses of architectural heritage. Mandu is considered to be one of the most elaborate examples for the same. Considered to be a celebration city in history of Indian Architecture, the entire city presents a unique character and architectural vocabulary. The main aim of study is to enhance observation and visual perception, along with developing sketching skills. The study was conducted on group basis, the locations inside the royal complex were decided for detailed study consisting of: • Jahaz Mahal • Champa Bawdi • Hindola Mahal • Water Palace (Jal Mahal) Some group carried out of water system prevalent in the complex, which is again considered to be a unique feature of the architecture and planning of Mandu. Apart from the Royal Complex a site seeing trip was conducted to the following places: • Rani Rupmati Mahal • Baz-Bahadur Palace • Jami Masjid • Asharfi Mahal • Maheshwar Temples The mode of study was sketches and photography. Students were asked to submit sketches at the end of each day. Interactive discussions in the beginning and at the end of the day were informative and imparted exposure to the students regarding various aspects related to history, architecture and construction technology.
Sankheda and Saputara (Artist Village and Ambapada Village), Gujarat | Date: 22nd to 24th March 2013 As a part of Related Study Program in Interior Design, a study tour was organized to Sankheda and Saputara (Artist’s Village and Ambapada Village) from 22nd to 24th March 2013 to provide a glimpse of traditional art of making lacquer furniture, Warli wall paintings, mask making using clay and paper-mesh and Bamboo products etc. One of the objects of R.S.P was also to explore the life style and culture of tribal people. At Sankheda, students visited furniture factory to observe the various steps involved in making of lacquer furniture (raw to final product). They were also exposed to the local showrooms to see the various products where this art is used other than the furniture. At Saputara, Artist’s Village various workshops on Warli painting, collage making, clay and paper- mesh mask making etc. were conducted by the Expertise to reveal the history behind the art & the techniques procedure. After workshop students were taken to see the Town and its scenic beauty. At Saputara Museum, they saw the lifestyle and culture of the tribal populace. Saputara ethnological Museum displays amazing presentation of multiplicity of clothes, traditional work of art, utensils, life-styles, house bits and pieces, ornaments, musical instruments, and numerous supplementary objects which the local tribes, known as Dangis, use. At Ambapada village, which is known for its beauty and flora, students had opportunities to witness & learn various bamboo crafts.
